Understanding what forensic scientists do will help you decide what area of work you would like to concentrate on. Although you can generalize where your focus would be such as field or laboratory investigations, clinical work, communication, education or research are some options. Many of the degree programs will also require the undergraduate to complete an internship prior to graduation. This may be in the setting of a police department, state-operated forensic laboratory or federal agency. You should inquiry what your degree program offers towards assistance in finding you an internship that fits into your schedule before you enroll into that program; this will assure your success in completing the program.
The outlook for this profession is that it will continue to grow and evolve along with all the new technology being introduced daily. If this is where your interests are, you need to take the time and research the many possible areas of employment, plus how much time you want to invest before you enter the workforce. The first step is getting a forensic science degree, which can even be pursued through an online education. However, this profession will never be boring and is a great career choice with many ways to advance within your chosen specialty!
